LOW IMPACT
At Odaje, our mission is to create sustainable fashion that is good for both the planet and its people.
WE ARE TAKING CONCRETE ACTION TO REDUCE OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
Rethinking how we design, manufacture and recycle our models by reinventing industry standards to reduce our impact.
OUR OBJECTIVE: 50% REDUCTION IN CO2 BY 2030
34KG OF CO2
This is on average what a standard trainers pair puts in 2024*
13KG OF CO2
This is on average what an Odaje trainers pair in 2024*
7KG OF CO2
on average, this is what an Odaje pair will emit in 2030*
01 MEASURING OUR EMISSIONS
If we are to improve the eco-responsibility of our products and reduce our environmental impact, we need to start by measuring it and comparing it to market standards. With this in mind, since 2020 we have been working with Fairly Made, an independent analysis company that carries out the LCA (Life Cycle Assessment) of our products every season, from design to recycling. They also identify the carbon footprint of each shoe’s components, so that we can source ever more eco-responsible materials.
02 ECODESIGN
The choice of raw materials is crucial to reduce the carbon footprint since they can represent up to 70% of the impact. From Fairly Made analyzes, our stylists and product managers eco-designed shoes by integrating the most ecological materials possible. They favor vegan sweating, laces in organic cottons, mesh and recycled gum more respectful of the environment.
Designed to last, our shoes combine design and eco-responsibility for fashion that’s good for both the planet and its inhabitants.
Another key point is weight. The lighter the shoe, the lower its carbon impact. At Odaje, we work hard every season to reduce the weight of our shoes. This reduction is achieved in particular through the design of our soles, which are hollow, with as few materials as possible. We also favour using our (re)colte soles, made from your worn out shoes that we collect in the shop:
MADE FROM YOUR SHOES
RECYCLED LEATHER
66% LESS CO2
than traditional leather
VEGAN SUEDE
67% LESS CO2
than traditional suede
(RE)COLTE SOLE
38% LESS CO2
than a traditional sole
03 Carbon compensation
And because reducing our carbon footprint isn’t enough, we’ve decided to go even further.
We offset 100% of our residual emissions to create carbon-neutral collections.
In other words, for 10.16kg of CO2 emitted for the production of a pair of Lucia, we finance a project which allows to sequester or avoid the issue of 10.16kg of CO2.
Projects that make sense
To contribute to this carbon neutrality, we select projects that are structurally transforming our industry so as to reduce the impact of our future collections.
# Eric’s cattle farm
Today, we are supporting a decarbonisation plan for a cattle farm in Moselle: improved feed, outdoor grazing, reduced energy consumption. Our aim is to understand how to transform this sector in order to reduce the carbon footprint of the leathers we use in some of our collections.
# Green energy in China
Because some of our trainers are made in China, we have also committed to funding an energy decarbonisation project there. It comprises a hydroelectric power station that uses the potential of the River Ba to supply green electricity to the grid. This is an ethical project that contributes to the sustainable development of a country in transition by providing jobs for the local population in this south-western province.
04 common objectives
Limiting our impact is also part of our day-to-day work. In our offices and shops, we try to remain consistent with our mission by promoting all eco-responsible initiatives. The team is committed, in its own small way, to reducing its carbon footprint as much as possible.
All our packaging is made from recycled paper, including shoeboxes, shipping cartons, all our print media, etc.
Goods are transported entirely by ship, train and lorry.
Sorting is an integral part of our waste management system and we prioritise recycling wherever possible.
And to take things even further in 2025, each department will have a carbon emissions assessment, with the aim of further limiting our impact.
